Tax and Spend Happy California at it Again!

California is at it again. Article Here
"Joe Six-pack will have to pay a lot more to get his buzz on if Assemblyman Jim Beall has his way.
The San Jose Democrat on Thursday proposed raising the beer tax by $1.80 per six-pack, or 30 cents per can or bottle. The current tax is 2 cents per can. That's an increase of about 1,500 percent.
Beall said the tax would generate $2 billion a year to fund health care services, crime prevention and programs to prevent underage drinking and addiction.
"The people who use alcohol should pay for part of the cost to society, just like we've accepted that concept with tobacco," Beall said."

Tax and Spend policies in America have gotten so far out of control. The founding of our country was on Freedom, liberty, and Personal Responsibility. Our current elected officals have lost site of this and now are pushing to control every aspect of our lives. It is time "The People" fought back and asked for the end of Big Government and a return to personal responsiblity!

Berkley Council Guilty of Treason

The Contra Costa times reports,

Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go.
That's the
message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 6-3 Tuesday night to tell
the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station "is not welcome in
the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and
unwelcome intruders."
In addition, the council voted to explore enforcing
its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against
the Marines because of the military's don't ask, don't tell policy. And it
officially encouraged the women's peace group Code Pink to impede the work of
the Marines in the city by protesting in front of the station.
In a separate
item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in
front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound
permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m.

"I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don't belong here, they
shouldn't have come here, and they should leave," said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates
after votes were cast.

This is the ultimate case for treason. It is one thing to have an opinion and voice it about the war, it is quite another to remove Marine recruiters. This kind of action should not be tolarated in America. Those who voted for this resolution should be found quilty of treason and removed from office. Tell Mayor Tom Bates how disgraceful his actions and comments are, his email address is mayor@ci.berkeley.ca.us

Thompson Liftoff

From the Corner on National Review,

All eyes are naturally enough on the Michigan primary tomorrow—all eyes,
that is, except mine, Jonathan Adler's, and those belonging to readers of this
happy Corner who have been wondering, along with Jonathan and me, when the polls
down in South Carolina would finally begin to move in Fred Thompson's direction.
Now, Rasmussen reports, they
have
. Fred ain't dead. Lately, as the South Carolina debate demonstrated to
all the world, he ain't even drowsy.
Which brings me to a question. Earlier
today I talked with an old friend who's close to the Thompson campaign. At every
Thompson campaign stop in South Carolina, he told me, there is something new:
real excitement. The crowds are big and growing by the day—for the first time,
people are being turned away from Thompson events because they're already full.
The state troopers are showing that special deference and respect they reserve
for candidates whom they actually suspect will soon become the commander in
chief. And Thompson himself is pointed, energetic, combative. In other words,
the campaign feels as though its achieving liftoff.

It is about time, but thankfully its not too late.

Bush Finally Targets Congressional Earmarks!

From Roll Call,

The White House may link a possible executive order eliminating thousands of earmarks with a call for reprogramming the funding, perhaps through a direct rebate to taxpayers or by putting the savings into children’s health care or bridge repair programs, according to House and Senate Republicans close to the issue.

It is about time someone starting holding Congress responsible for their pork barrel buffet.

Nanny State Alert: California wants to control home tempatures

The International Herald Tribune is running this article that says California is giving power to State regulators to control Home thermostats. This is just a growing form of big government that is working to limit your personal freedom while preventing a free market solution to the problem that they are trying to "solve." From the Article,

The proposed rules are contained in a document circulated by the California
Energy Commission, which for more than three decades has set state energy
efficiency standards for home appliances, like water heaters, air conditioners
and refrigerators.
The changes would allow utilities to adjust customers' preset temperatures when the price of electricity is soaring. Customers could override the utilities' suggested temperatures. But in emergencies, the utilities could override customers' wishes. You realize there are times - very rarely, once every few years - when you would be subject to a rotating outage and everything would crash including your computer and traffic lights, and you don't want to do that," said Arthur Rosenfeld, a member of the energy commission.
Reducing individual customers' electrical use - if necessary, involuntarily - could avoid that, Rosenfeld said. "If you can control rotating outages by letting everyone in the state share the pain," he said, "there's a lot less pain to go around."

While no one argues that it is not good to have rolling black outs, the solution though could be a little simpler. How about you all companies to build new capacity in California without burdensome regulation. How about allowing competition to provide power to residents. That would make too much sense when you can just play big brother and take away peoples personal freedoms.

House Democrats not intrested in preventing Terrorist attacks

From the Washington Post,

The White House vowed to veto the measure. Limiting the CIA to interrogation
techniques authorized by the Army Field Manual "would prevent the United States
from conducting lawful interrogations of senior al Qaeda terrorists toobtain intelligence needed to protect Americans from attack," the Office of Management and Budget said in a statement.

The House Democrats are so worried about treating the Al Queda members so well that they do not care how many American lives they cost. You cannot play by the rules when your opponent does not follow them. It is time we asked House Democrats to Protect Americans first and pander later.

Huckabee a soft target says dems

According to Drudgereport.com

Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican
presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal. The Democratic National
Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party's
nomination. The directive has come down from the highest levels within the
party, according to a top source. Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the
"glass jaw -- and they're just waiting to break it." In the last three weeks
since Huckabee's surge kicked in, the DNC hasn't released a single press release
criticizing his rising candidacy. The last DNC press release critical of
Huckabee appeared back on March 2nd. [DNC Press Release Attack Summary: Governor
Mitt Romney (R-MA) – 37% (99 press releases) Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) – 28%
(74) Senator John McCain (R-AZ) – 24% (64) Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) – 8%
(20) Governor Mike Huckabee – 2% (4)] In fact, as the story broke over the
weekend that Huckabee said he wanted to isolate AIDS patients back in 1992, the
DNC ignored the opportunity to slam the candidate from the left. "He'll easily
be their McGovern, an easy kill," mocked one senior Democrat operative Tuesday
morning from Washington. "His letting out murderers because they shout 'Jesus',
his wanting to put 300,000 AIDS patients and Magic Johnson into isolation, ain't
even scratching the surface of what we've got on him."The discipline the
Democrats have shown in not engaging Huckabee has earned the praise of one
former Republican Party official: "The Democrats are doing a much better job
restraining themselves than the GOP did in 2003 when Howard Dean looked like he
was on the brink of winning the nomination."A close friend to Huckabee explains:
"Look, Mike is Hillary Clinton's worst nightmare. They should be
squirming."

Fred is Right again: Keep government out of food choice

Fred is right again with his small government and personal liberty message. CNN's Political Ticker carries the story

Fred Thompson wants the government to keep its hands off your dinner
plate. That's what he told a questioner Tuesday in South Carolina,
anyway.
Standing about 15 feet away from a mouth-watering steam tray buffet
loaded with fried chicken, creamed corn and macaroni and cheese at Wade's
Southern Cooking in Spartanburg, Thompson dismissed the idea that preventative
care and wellness education should be central features of a government's health
care system.
"I'm telling you, I don’t think that it’s the primary
responsibility of the federal government to tell you what to eat," Thompson said
to applause when asked if his health care plan included any details on
preventative care, a priority for Democratic candidates.
"The fact of the
matter is we got an awful lot of knowledge,” said the former Tennesse senator.
“Sometimes we don’t have a whole lot of will power, and I don’t know of any
government program that's going to instill that."
Thompson, ever a fan of
small government, said healthy living should be the responsibilities of families
first.
"We shouldn’t be looking at the federal government in Washington first
and working our way down, it ought to be just the other way around. With that,
or whether you're talking about education, there's some things the federal
government can't do," said Thompson.

Laws were not meant to force social change, So why the new energy bill?

That sound you are hearing could very well be the founders rolling over in their graves. Congress has decided in all their wisdom to implement new MPG requirements for automakers. Who crazy are the new standards well according Mike Spector of the Wall Street Journal,

Consider the Honda Fit, a Japanese-made subcompact hatchback that's one of
the smallest cars sold in America. Its tiny four-cylinder gasoline engine
averages about 31 mpg in government tests for combined city and highway driving
-- not good enough to beat the proposed 35 mpg.

The effect of this legislation will make cars more expensive as it will cost more to develop cars that will get 35 mpg. There will also be fewer choices of alternatives to cars for consumers, as trucks and SUVs will be harder to produce. The effect will be many more small and subcompact cars.

This is just the latest in oppressive government bills that take freedom and choice out of consumers and gives the authority to the nanny state government. If there was a desire for better mileage cars the companies would make them. Look at how the prius has done. Given a choice consumers will drive the market. This is not a job for an overbearing government and just moves us further aware from the founding principles of America. We fought the Revolution for Freedom not just a new oppresive government telling us what we should want.

Hillary (pot) attacks Obama (Kettle); Does Hillary actually believe her own accusations.

Hillary today Attacked Obama for his ambition to be President. Does she really believe she did not do the same thing herself. There was never any question that Hillary was positioning herslef for a run from the day she got into the White House. Besides how does 4 additional years give you emense credibility when she had no public service before that and Mr. Obama had in fact served in the state legislature before running for the us senate. Here is the quote.

"So you decide which makes more sense: Entrust our country to someone who
is ready on day one ... or to put America in the hands of someone with little
national or international experience, who started running for president the day
he arrived in the U.S. Senate."

Nanny State Alert: Massachusetts considering banning spanking

In what is almost impossible to believe a parent who spanks their child in Massachusetts would be quality of abuse and neglect. That could be true if the legislature has their way. WCBV reports that lawmakers are going to consider such legislation.

State Rep. Jay Kaufman filed the spanking ban petition at the request of an
Arlington, Mass., nurse who wants Massachusetts to become the first state in
the country to stop corporal punishment. If this proposal does become law
and parents are caught hitting their children who are under the age of 18,
they could be charged with abuse or neglect.

This is just the latest in a growing list of Governments that have forgot what Freedom is all about. Our society has moved from one that people had personal responsibility and freedom. To one where the Government sees the need to protect everyone and take away their freedoms "for the good of the people." It is time we resisted these measures and hold our elected officials responsible for trying to impose their will on the masses.

Fred Thompson has released the ad found below on the issue of immigration. He take a common sense approach to the issue. Fred Thompson has said in his complete immigration plan as well as in the ad that amnesty is not the answer. He also believes that we should enforce the laws already on the books that will help send many of the illegals that are here now back to their homeland. Victory against Propoganda; Judge rules Gore climate film requires guidance notes

A judge today in Englad said that schools that show Al Gore's movie have to require with guidence notes so that kids will not be politically indoctrinated. The father who brought the lawsuit said the film was filled with "serious scientific inaccuracies, political propaganda and sentimental mush".

This film was inteded to present the opinion of Al Gore and what he thinks should be done to prevent it. It is not a subsitute for real academic learning. This is proof to me that our school system is broken. Why are teachers showing these kinds of movies and not teaching them real science. Here in America schools are showing this biased film as if it were complete fact. I hope that a judge here in America will show the same common sense that this English Judge did. Lets educate our children not brainwash them.

More Big Government for Hillary, 401Ks run by the Government and Tax Credits for all

Hillary has decided that government run healthcare is not enough; she now wants to have a government run 401k system. Today she laid out a plan for a government run 401K plan with what she calls "American Retirement Accounts." She also calls for a tax credit of $500 or $1000 to encourage people to save, and she will pay for it by freezing the estate tax. She will make these accounts voluntary. Hillary maybe has spent too many years out of the mainstream of America. Portable retirement funds are available everywhere, you can even sign up for one online in three minutes. We already have tax incentives to save in these accounts. What Hillary now wants to do is to take away the free market from Investments. She could propose to change the tax code without having a government takeover of retirement accounts. What is wrong with T Rowe Price or Vanguard. Hillary makes it clear with this proposal that she has never me a government bureaucracy that she does not like. Let’s take something the free market already offers and have the government run it. Either she does not understand the Constitution or finds it inconvenient. It is time that people stand up to Big Government advocates and make them respect the free market and the Constitution of the United States of America.
